Q:   Where can a fixer-uppers be found?

A:   Fixer-uppers are all over the Las Vegas valley, even in some of the very best neighborhoods such as Summerlin, Green Valley and the The Lakes. A fixer home is one that has been neglected needed maintenance perhaps even suffered vandalism and as a result is at a much lower price than other homes in the area. Look for the least appealing house in the very best neighborhood.

If you are on the handy side and want to seriously save money buy doing repairs yourself, you may look into a home that has even had kitchen cabinets and the sinks and tubs removed. These homes that have been heavily damaged are a gamble that some people want in order to take advantage of huge savings.

If you are handy but not quite that brave then you may want to take on a fixer-upper that is more cosmetic. If fixing some holes, new paint, new flooring and replacing appliances is something you can do, then look into some of the fixers on our foreclosure listings.  You can find some very good buys on the Las Vegas market but you will need to carefully factor in the cost of renovations with the purchase price.

Q:   Is it worth it to remodel fixers?

A:   There many books and television shows devoted to showing do it yourself fans exactly how to tackle that remodeling project. DIY remodeling plans have become very popular and the while the bottom line in some cases is the question if the remodeling is going to be improve the homes' value enough to recouperate the cost down the road. This is where you need to keep a careful eye on the cost in evaluating the extent of remodeling needed to make the home livable worth the work.
